The Bellevue
Constructed in 1904, the iconic Bellevue-Stratford Hotel in Center City Philadelphia has a rich and storied history. Over the past 120 years, portions of the building’s elaborate detailing have been modified, covered, or removed due to various renovations and alterations. The proposed design seeks to peel back the layers of modifications to accentuate the original grandeur of the space and reinstall elements of the historic fabric while stitching the main floor spaces together by reinstating the original Beaux-Arts circulation parti. The scope of the entire redevelopment project entailed: shuffling and restacking 100,000 square feet of office tenants to open up existing floors for 176 new apartments, renovating 166 hotel rooms and hallways, changing the hotel lobby entrance back to Broad Street and installing new entrances and marquees, creating a separate apartment lobby and amenity areas, cleaning and restoring the historic masonry façade, fitting out a new restaurant, and renovating the public hallways, and connecting lobbies to existing ballroom areas.
